EMERALD CHAOS

Chapter I

It was late, really late, but all the same he couldn’t sleep he just stood on the roof of his building looking at the horizon. If you looked at him right now you couldn't tell he was a member of the JLA you couldn’t tell that had had the most powerful weapon in the universe on his finger, you would never tell that he is the last of the Green Lanterns, but this guy was.

"Hey, what you doing up here?" a voice asked. The man turned around and standing behind him was a beautiful woman that was, well green.

"OH, Hi Jade," The man said, "what you doing up here?"

"Seeing what you are doing up here Kyle?" She said back.

"Not much, just thinking"

"Don’t hurt yourself."

This got a smile out of him, then he sighed and said, "Trying not to."

"What you thinking bout Kyle?"

"Lots Alex, Donna, Hal, John, Guy, the old GL corps, your dad. I’ve been thinking bout anything and everything, you every notice the more you think the less happy you get?"

"Well that's your problem thinking bout unhappy sad things and that will happen. What about being in the JLA, traveling to other planets, having an all powerful accessory?"

"You always find a bright side don’t you?"

"Yep, its a gift."

"Yeah well thanks I think I will take a little spin round the city. You wanta come?"

"No, got a job tomorrow gotta get some sleep. Later."

Then Kyle looked around then with a bright flash of green light a black, green, and gray costume materialized around him. Then a green aura came around him and he took off into the air.

Kyle was flying over the city at a great speed looking down at the city that never sleeps. "Jade’s right I have a good life even though there are some bad parts to it." he thought to himself. He was flying over central park. He was flying quite low contemplating stopping when he heard screaming. "Oh great" he thought to himself as he flew the direction he thought the scream came from. Then another scream and he was sure he was going the right way. He came to a small clearing and looked down and saw three guys and a woman. Two of the men here holding the girl down, and the other pointing a gun at her telling her to shut up.

"Hehehe, we’re gonna have some fun wit you so shut up so we don’t have to kill you, yet," the man with the gun said.

"Didn’t you mom tell you that's not how you treat a lady?" Kyle said behind the man with the gun.

"Ah crap, It’s Green Lantern," one of the guys holding the woman down said.

"He ain’t fer long," said the man with the gun as he spun around getting ready to shot at GL, but a bolt of green plasma shot from the power ring in the shape of a giant robotic claw garbing the gun and crushing it. He dropped the remnants of the gun, and grabbed the gunmen by the shirt and picked him off the ground.

"RUN FOR IT!" said one of the guys that was holding the woman down. Then a big green science-fiction type gun materialized in Kyle’s left hand, and two green rope lines shot out of the gun each wrapped itself around one of the guys running and pulled them back.

"You should know better," Kyle said smirking, "You aren't getting off that easy." Then he wrapped all three up with green translucent chains.

"You ain’t getting away with this, police brutality..." he didn’t get to finish because Kyle, with a flash of his ring, slapped gags on all three of them.

"Do I look like a cop to you?" Kyle said to them. Then he floated down to the ground and helped the woman up "Are you ok?"

"Yes, I think so, thanks to you," she said to him gladly.

After dropping her and the three idiots off at the police station he was feeling kinda tired him self. So he thought he would go back to the apartment and hit the sack. He flew into his alley window and once inside his costume dematerialized. Then with his his ring wipes up a flashlight and was ready to go to bed BUT what he saw was not good. His apartment was thrashed things over turned things scattered around, fearing the villain was still there his suit rematerialized around him. Then a large lantern appeared in his right hand illuminating the room everything was messed up. He noticed Jade laying in a heap on the floor. He flew across the room and hit the lights. That's when he saw it a message on the wall "LANTERN MEET ME AT ELLIS ISLAND TOMORROW NIGHT ALONE SIGNED AN OLD FRIEND"

Chapter II

"Great" he thought "who Sonar, Dr. Light?" He had no time to think about it he flew to the middle of the room to check on Jade she was unconscious but otherwise ok.

"Jade, Jade wake up!" he said shaking her.

"Huh, wha, where KYLE WHERE IS HE!"

"Gone but who was, it who?"

"I-I-I donno he had long hair, and a goatee and transparent legs and was on fire with a pale green flame."

"PURGATORY!"

"Who?"

"Someone who I thought was dead. See I helped him by giving him a little power so he could walk again, but then Neron made a bargain with him and turned him into that. After he failed killing me Neron took him to hell. I thought that was the end of him."

"I guess not."

"Looks like I have to fight him again."

"I’ll help."

"No, I have to try to help him."

"Help him, but"

"No, buts I feel some what responsible, this is my problem. Maybe maybe I just had an idea, are you ok I gotta go."

"Um, Yeah I think so."

With that Kyle flew out the window the sun was coming up now, Kyle was really getting tired now but he had a plan it wasn’t a great plan but a plan find out who Purgatory really is and find him and attack him first. The only way to do that was to go to where this began New York Public Library. He remembered Purgatory saying he lost his leg's in a subway accident maybe they would have newspapers on microfilm but it would most likely be closed. As Kyle got there he saw someone going in the back door. He flew down there.

"Excuse me?" he said to the man.

"Oh my Green Lantern!" he said shocked.

"Yeah well do you work here?"

"Yes did you think I was breaking in? I just have a lot of paperwork to do and would like to get an early start."

"No, not at all I was wondering if I could use the newspaper microfilms. It would be very helpful to me."

"Well of course, wow I’m helping a member of the JLA"

"Um yeah."

Well after an hour of looking Kyle found what he was looking for. He found some one with identical injuries to Purgatory’s the guy’s name is Paul Christian. He found something else he had a sister Stephanie who died in the accident. After he left the library he found an old phone book and found Paul Christian’s address. Kyle went there but the house had been sold. so much for his plan. Even if he found Purgatory he’s so tired it was getting hard to concentrate so he went back to his apartment to sleep.


Chapter III

When he got there Jade was up and about still a little shaken but otherwise ok. Kyle slept most of the day and awoke just before nightfall. Charged up his ring and was ready to leave.

"Kyle you sure you want to go it alone?"

"I have to."

Then he was off flying top speed to Ellis Island to the Statue of Liberty. He got there at sunset and waited and waited and waited. It was 12:30A.M. when Purgatory showed. He came in blazing flying straight at GL, then dead stopped.

"GREEN LANTERN!!!!!!!! I’m gonna KILL YOU!!!!!" he shrieked. Then sent a pale green blast of fiery energy right at Kyle. Kyle quickly created a shield to protect himself, and dodged out of the way. Then made a really big cartoon mallet and slammed Purgatory to the ground with it. Purgatory lay there limp.

"It couldn’t be that easy," Kyle said.

Then he flipped over and ,while firing another energy blast at Kyle, said, "YOUR RIGHT!" This time Kyle was to close to dodge or make a shield in time. The blast hit him full force knocking him a good 20 yards. Kyle was dazed trying to get up didn’t see Purgatory flying straight for him. Purgatory flew right into Kyle’s chest and knocked him to the shore line. Purgatory was getting ready for another energy blast, but this time Kyle saw it coming. He flew straight up the blast went under him. Then Kyle made some armor and a really big SCI-fi type gun. Purgatory was still blasting at him but Kyle weaved around the blasts.

"Why, I tried to help you?" Kyle said as he was weaving.

"Because You seNt me to HELL!!!" Purgatory said still blasting away. Kyle was now on the other side of him and used that really big SCI-fi type gun to blast Purgatory out 50 yards off the island. Kyle stood there waiting for Purgatory to come flying out of the water. A blast came alright but from way left of where he was expecting it. Kyle formed a shield seconds before the blast hit him, and it blasted through the shield in seconds. It hit Kyle’s armor and ripped through that too. This blast knocked GL to the other side of the island.

As Kyle was getting up he whispered to himself, "I got him mad now." He looked up and saw Purgatory flying right at him. For some odd reason he yelled, "PAUL WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS I TRIED TO HELP!"

Purgatory stopped "P-Paul?" his eyes when from fiery green to normal. Then he shook his head and his eyes blazed again, "PAUL is DEAD! He died in HELL!" Purgatory sent another blast at Kyle. Kyle flew right barley dodging the blast.

Kyle realized he hit a nerve when he said his real name. So he tried again, "PAUL! I can help. Let me help."

"NO PAUL IS DEAD! HE DIED WHEN YOU SENT HIM TO HELL!!!!!"

"No I tried to help. I don’t know what you’ve been though but it was NERON who sent you to hell!"

"neron? no, you sent me to hell."

"No I didn’t. Neron did," then remembering the newspapers, Paul’s sister, "what would Stephanie think?"

"st-Stephanie, n-neron, oh my god STEPHANIE!! Oh dear lord WHAT HAVE I BECOME!"

Kyle saw that what he said had an impact, "It’s all right."

"Oh no what have I done, I’m sorry I’m so sorry."

Then there was a blinding flash of yellow light and there standing before Kyle and Paul was NERON!


Chapter IV

"That's right NERON!"

"NO oh no please no not again," Paul whimpered. Kyle knew he had good reason to Neron kicked the crap out of Kyle once too.

"What do you want Neron?" Kyle tried to say as confidently as he could.

"HmHmHm You try to sound brave Green Lantern but you know I can beat the living Crap out of you."

"Yeah well worth a shot."

"You amuse me Lantern, but as for you Paul Christian should have never been given such power you pathetic fool. So now it shall be taken away." Neron held up a hand in Paul's direction and a beam of yellow light shot out of his hand at Paul.

Paul screamed "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and then fell limply backwards. No flaming body, energy legs.

"Oh my," Kyle said as he bent down to see if Paul was dead or alive, "He’s alive? But why."

"I believe you have an expression never look a gift horse in the mouth. Just never try to give him power again or he will turn back into Purgatory." Then just like that he disappeared.

"Ok what was that about?" Kyle wondered to himself. He put Paul on a stretcher he made with his ring and took him to the hospital. After that he went back to his apartment.

"Kyle, what happened?" Jade asked as he flew through the window.

"Neron turned him back to a normal person."

"What! DID YOU BARGAIN!!"

"No, I don’t know why he did it."

Then they said in unison, "Weird"


Epilogue

Down in the dark pits of hell Neron laughs to himself. Because they all think he did a good thing, a nice thing for no reason, but he did not get rid of Purgatory. Oh no he merely put him in hibernation waiting for the right time to come out...
