NOTE

Though numerous alien races have sought to conquer other worlds, the presence of the Green Lantern Corps has often proved a deterrent to their agendas. So it was with a race from the world of Groll in the 24th Galaxy until they devised a way to force Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern of Earth to conquer Earth for them.

The Grolls used small doses of "cerebro-radiation" to unhinge Green Lantern's reason, making the ring wielder irrational. Once his mind was so prepared, the Grolls would be follow up with a massive dose of the same radiation which would place Green Lantern completely under their control.

To Green Lantern's friend and confidant Tom Kalmaku, the hero's odd behavior was a source of concern. Green Lantern used his power ring to shoot off fireworks on a Coast City street, only to explain it away as merely testing out the ring. That action, coupled with other incidents, led Kalmaku to bring his friend to Dr. Keller in Coast City. Dr. Keller could not find anything wrong with the ring wielder but when Green Lantern paid the doctor with a one hundred dollar bill created by his power ring, Kalmaku knew something had to be wrong.

Back at the Ferris Aircraft Corporation, Kalmaku managed to get his friend to contact the Guardians of the Universe through his power battery. The Guardians quickly deduced the Grolls involvement in the Emerald Crusader's puzzling behavior. Still, the Guardians were confident the Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814 could overcome the Grolls' plans.

Kalmaku had serious doubts, especially when Green Lantern started selling duplicates of his famed power ring on the streets of Coast City. For a dollar a piece, Coast City's citizens flocked to Green Lantern's sidewalk sale.

On the world of Groll, the invaders gave the order to fire off the massive dose of cerebro-radiation that would place the ring wielder under their absolute control. At the Grolls' command, Green Lantern's emerald energy spread across the Earth. All the humans on Earth became mindless automatons, ready to do Green Lantern's bidding. The Grolls were now ready to takeover. Landing in Coast City, the Grolls ordered Green Lantern to appear before them. Having no further use for the Emerald Crusader, the Grolls commanded Green Lantern to use the power ring to destroy himself.

When Green Lantern had learned of the Grolls' plan from the Guardians, he had ordered his ring to duplicate the cerebro-radiation and secretly feed himself large doses of it. Green Lantern was able to build up an immunity to the later massive charge. Though he vanished in a blast of emerald energy, Green Lantern was not dead. He had turned himself invisible to make the Grolls think he had vaporized himself while he prepared a counter attack.

Green Lantern ordered all those he had given power rings to fly. The skies over Coast City were filled with the power ring wearing citizens. Green Lantern revealed his presence to the Grolls who then turned one of their radiation weapons against him. Green Lantern called upon the willpower of all the ring wielders in Coast City to bolster his power. Alone he would not have survived against the Grolls' more powerful weapon but with the help of the other ring wielders he was able to reduce the Groll weapon to slag.

The Grolls were then easily defeated. They returned to their homeworld and have not been heard from since.
