HISTORY

Studying the origins of the 30th Century Legion of Super-Heroes, the virtually omnipotent Time Trapper decided to bring forth a Superboy to match the 30th Century's legends of the young hero. Reaching back one million years into the past, the Time Trapper had taken a fraction of time from the true universe to create a pocket universe. He then shaped history to his own whims, destroying worlds, even galaxies, until two worlds were left, Earth and Krypton.

- Legion of Super-Heroes Vol. 3 #38; Adventures of Superman #444

Worlds such as Maltus and Oa were gone, as were the Guardians of the Universe and their Green Lantern Corps. Test pilot Hal Jordan would never become the legendary Green Lantern as he had on many other Earths.

The only hero to arise on Earth was Superboy. The Time Trapper lost interest in the Pocket Universe after the death of Superboy, leaving the people on the Earth of the Pocket Universe to their own fate. The people of the Pocket Universe Earth did not know Superboy had died, only that he had disappeared. Searching for Superboy, Lex Luthor, a brilliant scientist on this world not the criminal mastermind he would become on other Earths, inadvertently released a trio of Kryptonian supercriminals, General Zod, Quex-Ul and Zaora from the otherworldly dimension of the Phantom Zone. The Kryptonians quickly destroyed the Phantom Zone projector and destroyed the lab. They spared Luthor as a reward for releasing them and then set out to subjugate the world.

For ten years, the people of the Earth resisted and Luthor chose Smallville as the home base of the resistance movement. Millionaires Bruce Wayne and Oliver Queen had exhausted their fortunes funding plans to defeat the Kryptonians but they, as well as Hal Jordan, were ready to do anything to help in the battle to free Earth.

Over time, the Kryptonians had grown weary of the resistance they faced. General Zod executed a plan to eliminate all life on Earth by blasting away the Earth's atmosphere. Covered by a protective force field, Smallville was the only area on the planet left habitable. The humans were still unwilling to surrender and had one final plan to save themselves. Luthor set in motion his plan to contact a Superman from another universe. - Adventures of Superman #444

Even with the aid of Superman, the Kryptonian villains overcame Smallville Station's defenses and were finishing off the last of the resistance. Hal Jordan was killed by General Zod as Bruce Wayne had been. Oliver Queen died at the hands of Zaora. Lex Luthor was the final human to die, leaving Superman to pass judgment on the Kryptonians. Using gold kryptonite to rob them of their powers, Superman sentenced them to death by green kryptonite. - Superman Vol. 2 #22

Killed by General Zod

During the event known as Zero Hour, the Hal Jordan of the true universe, at the time influenced by Parallax, was erasing existence in preparation to forge a new universe. Drawing together the forces of entropy from the beginning and ends of time, Parallax was unable to close the loop due to the existence of the Pocket Universe, which was an obstruction in the time stream. After irrevocably destroying the Time Trapper, Parallax erased the Pocket Universe in the late 30th Century. - Zero Hour: Crisis in Time #1
