HISTORY

Originally from another dimension where physical laws are radically different from ours, Nekron, the fear parasite, came to Earth's dimension to feed on "D-Fear," the terror felt by one who knows his death is imminent. This terror acts as a narcotic to Nekron. He had destroyed entire planets in his dimension just to feed on the "D-Fear". The inhabitants of Nekron's dimension see fear and courage as tangible essences. Emotions such as courage caused great pain to Nekron. Before entering our dimension, Nekron closely studied Earth. Nekron needed to eliminate them by making them unwilling to fight him. - Justice League of America #128-129

Nekron managed to elude the sensors of the Guardians of the Universe and enter Space Sector 2814. Nekron's first target was the Justice League of America. Using his advanced technology, Nekron subjected the Justice League to a mysterious gas. Heroes such as Superman, Batman, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Hawkman, and the Elongated Man suddenly found themselves experiencing visions of their own deaths. They were unwilling to risk their lives as the need for self preservation became overwhelming. The fear parasite's next target was the Green Lantern of Earth, Hal Jordan.

The Guardians monitored Nekron as he attacked the ring wielder. They were intrigued by the battle. The courage of Green Lantern caused great pain to the parasite. It might have been possible for Green Lantern's mere presence to force Nekron from Earth but the creature was too clever. It transmuted an avalanche of rock into gold which buried the ring wielder. Though its master was unconscious, the power ring slipped off Green Lantern's finger and travelled to the Justice League's satellite.

With no heroes to oppose him, Nekron terrorized tourists at the Grand Canyon. Their emanations of "D-Fear" strengthened him, but the arrival of the Justice League quickly weakened him. Batman tried to blast Nekron with Green Lantern's power ring but he was stopped when the ring ran out of power. Though the heroes were too fearful to attack Nekron directly, they were able to save the endangered tourists. Nekron escaped and devised a new plan. - Justice League of America #128

Nekron pulled a solar prominence from Earth's sun and sent it hurtling to Midway City. The Justice League could not divert the solar prominence and were forced to evacuate Midway City. While Hawkman was unwilling to risk his life to save the city, Red Tornado took his place and was apparently destroyed in the process.

The Guardians of the Universe advised the Justice League of Nekron's origin and charged them with the fate of Earth. As Hal Jordan's power ring was out of energy and the battery was missing, the Guardians were unable to contact John Stewart.

Superman and the Flash rescued Green Lantern and searched for the invisible power battery. Nekron had left a robotic guard to prevent the heroes from taking the battery. While Superman decoyed the robot, the Flash found the battery and was able to revive the emerald gladiator long enough to recharge the power ring.

Nekron was still finding victims to feed on their D-Fear. In Paris, the other Leaguers worked to separate Nekron from his weaponry. Their courage pained him greatly and the parasite swore to kill them before he died.

On the Justice League satellite, the Atom used the power ring to boost Aquaman's telepathic power thereby enabling the Sea King to implant a "super-post-hypnotic suggestion" in Superman's mind.

The Flash teleported to Paris, but was too fearful to continue the battle. Only with the help of Wonder Woman could the Scarlet Speedster steel himself long enough to strike at their alien adversary. Using the power ring, the Flash booted Nekron into a Justice League teleport beam. The parasite was instantly brought aboard the satellite.

Nekron felt an powerful amount of D-Fear emanating from the Man of Steel. Gorging on the emotion, Nekron found himself overwhelmed by euphoria. He was unable to absorb Superman's D-Fear and was burned out in the process. He shrank to his original size and was put into suspended animation aboard the Justice League of America's satellite. - Justice League of America #129

In the years since Nekron's attack, the Justice League of America's satellite headquarters was destroyed. Whether Nekron was destroyed or released has yet to be revealed.
