HISTORY

Existing in "the universe beyond the speed of light," the world of Spectar shared a similar hyperspace orbit with that of the Earth. Once every Spectarn hiurn, or four Earth hours, the positions of the two planets would exactly coincide. Each planet remained in its own dimension but the Spectarns were able to glimpse events on Earth. It was from these glimpses the Spectarns learned of Green Lantern Hal Jordan and the super-speedster known as Barry Allen, the Silver Age Flash.

The ruling class of Spectar was not content with the mere study of Earth, they wished to conquer their other dimensional neighbors. The first stage of their plan was under way when Green Lantern, returning from a mission in deep space, traveled at faster than light speeds and crossed the gulf between dimensions. Caught by surprise, Jordan crashed into a building on Spectar. The impact knocked Green Lantern unconscious for a few hours.

A "computo-analyzer" was secretly used on Green Lantern by the Spectarns but they could not remove or duplicate the power ring. When Green Lantern woke, Chi-Vam, the Chief of all of Spectar, explained to their visitor that they communicated via though projection and had learned about the Earth hero. They knew about his power ring's need to be recharged every twenty-four hours and convinced Green Lantern he would need to return to Earth as soon as possible by attaining a speed faster than light during the short time their respective worlds' orbits coincided.

Arriving on Earth, Green Lantern's strange behavior was noticed by his friend, Tom Kalmaku. The ring wielder spoke a different version of his oath,

In brightest day in blackest night all evil shall escape my sight! Let those who worship evil's might fear not my power Green Lantern's light.

Coincidentally, Kalmaku and Jordan were joining Carol Ferris and Tom's girlfriend Tegra over the weekend for a meeting with Iris West and her boyfriend, Barry Allen, secretly the Flash. Iris West was a reporter for the Picture News from Central City and was to interview Jordan in his role as a test pilot for the Ferris Aircraft Corporation.

At Kalmaku's request, Barry Allen investigated Jordan's actions and stumbled across Jordan's dual identity as Green Lantern. He offered his help as the Flash, only to be attacked by his fellow Justice League member. A series of skirmishes in and around Coast City finally led to the Flash's defeat and capture. Green Lantern took the Scarlet Speedster to his Spectarn masters.

Due to the power ring's protection from mortal harm, the Spectarns could not slay Green Lantern. He was sent back to Earth with his memory of the prior twenty-four hours erased from his mind. The Spectarns were confident Green Lantern would not be a threat to their invasion plans.

Chi-Vam explained their plans to the Flash. Using the computo-analyzer, the Spectarns discovered the secret of the Flash's super-speed. They were going to give super-speed powers to their soldiers, which would enable them to break the dimensional barrier separating Spectar from Earth.

Though they had erased Green Lantern's memories, the Spectarns had not anticipated the ring would record the events of the prior twenty-four hours and play the information back to Green Lantern. When the worlds were in the same position once more, Green Lantern returned to Spectar to rescue his friend. Together they were able to defeat Chi-Vam and the leaders of Spectar. The heroes then met with the drones, or working class, of Spectar and received their promise to put aside their leaders' dreams of conquest. The Spectarns have not been heard from since.
