OVERVIEW

Following the apparent deaths of Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and Thaal Sinestro, Simon Baz wields a power ring as Earth's newest Green Lantern. A suspected terrorist, Baz is wanted by the U.S. Government and also the Justice League following the disappearance of Jordan.

HISTORY

Though born in America, Simon Baz, a Muslim of Arabic descent grew to adulthood in the wake of the events of September 11, 2001. Earning a degree in automotive engineering, Baz worked in a auto factory for three years until laid off as the plant closed.

At some point, Baz was involved in street racing which caused an accident which put his brother-in-law in a coma. A sense of responsibility led Baz to another ill-advised occupation, that of a car thief. He stole a van, not realizing it carried explosives. Chased through the streets of Dearborn, Michigan, he made his way back to the now-abandoned auto factory so the bomb would explode with the least chance of endangering innocents.

Taken into custody by federal officials, he was interrogated at a location outside the United States. Wrongfully suspected of being an Islamic terrorist, Simon Baz could not give the answers his interrogators were convinced he held. Moments before his captors could use torture, a Green Lantern power ring blasted into the room, selecting Simon Baz. Propelled through the roof by the ring energy, Baz was knocked unconscious, with the power ring holding a message for him.

Assisted by Green Lantern B'dg, Simon Baz was able to unscramble the dual messages, from Hal Jordan and Sinestro.

Baz was a member of the short-lived Justice League of America and came into conflict with the Justice League.

POWERS AND WEAPONS

As a Green Lantern, Simon Baz wields an Oan power ring. Fueled by the willpower of sentient beings across the universe, the ring enables the wielder to create emerald energy constructs. Additionally, it enables flight, a forcefield, and the ability to survive the rigors of deep space. The ring can tap the Book of Oa, a repository of knowledge of the Guardians of the Universe.

Baz's ring may have some yet-untold differences from the typical power ring due to a possible programming error.
